Grupo Aeromexico has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
protection to restructure amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
In a video message, Aeromexico CEO Andrés Conesa said the
carrier's operations would not be affected during the restructuring and that it
planned to add service in July, including resuming 15 domestic and
international routes and "significantly" increasing frequencies. He
said Aeromexico would use the Chapter 11 process to "strengthen our
financial position, obtain financing and increase our liquidity and create a
sustainable platform to succeed in an uncertain global economy."
Aeromexico is the third major Latin American carrier to file
for bankruptcy protection amid the Covid-19 crisis. Latam Airlines Group and
Colombian carrier Avianca each filed for protection in May.
