Premier Inn has continued its expansion in London after securing a vacant office block close to the city’s South Bank area.
The budget brand said that it planned to convert Dorset House in Stamford Street into a 400-room hub by Premier Inn. The project will be subject to planning permission and Premier Inn’s owner Whitbread has not revealed any planned opening date for the new hotel.
Hub by Premier Inn hotels, which were created as a sub-brand in 2014, are located in city centres and offer more “compact” rooms compared with the budget brand’s typical Premier Inn properties.
There are already 15 hub by Premier Inn hotels currently operating in London. The company has already announced plans for a new 693-room hub by Premier Inn close to Trafalgar Square, as well as locations in the City of London and Holborn.
Derek Griffin, head of acquisitions at Whitbread, added: “Since launching our first hub by Premier Inn in Covent Garden in 2014, we’ve built a successful network of 18 hotels across London and Edinburgh, offering guests affordable stays in prime city centre locations.
“As we’ve grown, we have been actively seeking the right opportunity south of the river and Dorset House represents a perfect fit. Its proximity to Waterloo and Blackfriars stations and the vibrant South Bank arts and culture district makes it an ideal location for both business and leisure travellers.”
