IHG Hotels & Resorts is expanding further in Europe after signing a deal to open an InterContinental hotel in Albania.
InterContinental Tirana will be the upmarket brand’s first property in the south-eastern European country when it opens under a franchise agreement with Geci Group in 2025.
The new-build property, located in Tirana’s central Skanderbeg Square, will feature around 300 rooms and suites, as well as a conference centre and ballroom offering capacity for up to 1,000 people for meetings and events.
There will also be several restaurants, bars and cafes, including a rooftop restaurant and bar with views across the city.
Willemijn Geels, vice president, development Europe, at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “InterContinental Hotels & Resorts is delighted to be partnering with Geci Group on its first property in Tirana, Albania’s capital city, cultural and economic hub.
“This is a great opportunity for IHG to expand within Albania, a key entry market for us, as well as grow our presence across The Balkans. It builds on momentum following the recently announced signing of Crowne Plaza Durres in Albania’s second largest city.”
