IHG Hotels & Resorts will expand its presence in Europe through an agreement with Grape Hospitality for five “conversion” properties to open over the next two years.
The five properties include voco Madrid Centre Retiro, which will become the first of IHG’s voco hotels in Spain, and Crowne Plaza Madrid Centre Retiro. Both hotels are due to open in the Spanish capital in April 2024.
The deal also includes three new Hotel Indigo locations in Florence, Bordeaux and Barcelona. Hotel Indigo Florence is due to open later this year, which will be followed by Hotel Indigo Bordeaux in May 2023 and finally Hotel Indigo Barcelona Gran Via Plaza Espana in April 2024.
Willemijn Geels, VP development Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said, “We are delighted to be partnering with Grape Hospitality on such a strong collection of hotels across some of our key European markets of Spain, France and Italy.”
The deal helps the three IHG brands to continue their expansion in Europe with Hotel Indigo now having 40 open hotels, while voco has 15 properties currently in operation and Crowne Plaza is up to 88 European hotels, with Crowne Plaza Budapest its latest addition.
France-based Grape Hospitality owns, operates and manages more than 100 hotels and 70 restaurants across Europe, with a portfolio of more than 10,000 rooms.
Frederic Josenhans, chairman of Grape Hospitality, added: “We are delighted to work with IHG in addition to our brands, to create value and diversify our portfolio. With Indigo, voco hotels and Crowne Plaza, all strong brands in their segment, we will be able to develop our catering and MICE expertise and make each hotel a unique living space.”
