Dalata Hotel Group is to introduce a second property in Germany as part of its expansion in continental Europe.
The Dublin-based firm has announced plans to open the Clayton Hotel Tiergarten in Berlin in 2026 after agreeing a 25-year lease with Deka Immobilien. Dalata already operates a Clayton branded hotel in Dusseldorf.
The Berlin property, which previously operated as the Novotel Berlin Am Tiergarten, is currently undergoing an 18-month refurbishment.
The hotel, located close to the Brandenburg Gate, will offer 274 rooms as well as a restaurant, bar, gym, sauna, and meetings and events centre when it reopens in the second half of next year.
Shane Casserly, deputy CEO of Dalata Hotel Group, said: "We are very excited to announce our first hotel in Berlin, a leading global travel destination and a key strategic location in our European expansion strategy.
“Situated close to numerous leisure and business hubs, the fully refurbished hotel will be ideally positioned to benefit from Berlin’s rich mix of cultural, historical, sporting, and business events and attractions.”
Dalata, which also runs the Maldron brand of hotels, rejected a takeover bid from Scandinavian property companies Pandox and Eiendomsspar earlier this month.
Currently Dalata has a portfolio of 56 hotels, which are mostly located in Ireland and the UK, although it also has existing Clayton properties in Amsterdam and Madrid.
