Coming on the heels of Monday's introduction of 'Safe Stay'
cleaning and safety guidelines by the American Hotel & Lodging Association,
Choice Hotels and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts have each released new cleaning
initiatives and protocols. Both hotel companies are part of AHLA's Safe Stay
advisory council.
Choice's "Commitment to Clean" programme partners
with hygiene expert Ecolab, enhances practices already in place and follows
recommendations from AHLA's guidelines, such as increasing the frequency of
cleanings and encouraging contactless communications. In addition, each Choice
hotel is to designate a "Commitment to Clean Captain", who will
complete applicable cleanliness training and will be responsible for
incorporating the new protocols into their hotel's operations. The company also
is exploring the use of ultraviolet light instruments, air purifiers and ozone
generators to further enhance sanitation.
Wyndham's "Count on Us" initiative aims to build
confidence among guests and to support franchisees when people begin to travel
again. The company has also partnered with Ecolab for use of its training and
disinfectants approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency, and follows
AHLA guidelines. In coordination with the rollout of these guidelines, Wyndham
will implement a series of mandatory virtual trainings for all its hotels. It
is also drop-shipping critical products –including masks, hand sanitisers and
disinfectant wipes – to its more than 6,000 US hotels in the next 30 days.
