School strikes led by Swedish schoolgirl Greta Thunberg, record temperatures in Britain in February and protests on the streets of London in April have brought climate change right to front of mind again. At the same time, the issue of our addiction to plastic has been brought into sharp focus by environmentalist Sir David Attenborough.
Business travel has always had an uneasy relationship with sustainability and the environment. Aviation is one of the biggest contributors to carbon emissions and efforts to convince travellers to use technology rather than meeting face to face have had limited success. High-end hotels encourage conspicuous consumption and generate enormous amounts of energy use.
So have we reached a pivotal moment when the "woke" generation will demand that the business travel sector does more to understand its impact?
