Recent research by Which? Suggests long-distance rail travel in the UK can often be more expensive than comparable air fares but is significantly less harmful on the environment.

It says the CO2 emissions caused by flying are, on average, six times those caused by taking the train, “meaning travellers face a tough choice between cheaper, shorter flights and taking the more environmentally friendly route”. Research/fares were sourced minimum 31 days ahead of travel dates.
