Paul Boyle has been appointed as the new chief executive of Capita Travel and Events, taking up his role on January 1. He explains his vision for the TMC to Catherine Chetwynd
What is your vision for the company? By bringing together and integrating some of the travel and event sectors’ leading experts, we have built a multi-specialist organisation that provides trusted and proven knowledge – and we'll continue to invest in our trusted advisor programme to the benefit of our customers. We see a gap in next-generation online self-booking – and we intend to fill it. We will provide market-leading data intelligence, giving trends and benchmarking; and place meetings at the heart of travel thinking which will shift the planning of technology, policy and demand management to a new breed of provider.
Capita Travel and Events has grown quickly through acquisitions. Is there any gap in expertise that you feel could be filled by further purchases? We will continue to keep a close eye on the market to assess opportunities, whether through organic development or acquisition. In the short term, we will focus on building on our technology and we continue to develop our online meetings management, which allows internal and external meeting space to be managed within travel management.
How do you see the TMC model developing over the next few years and what will be Capita’s part in that?We will see organisations seeking greater accountability from their travel and meetings solutions provider, leading to shared savings models of remuneration. Self-booking tools will require access to leading specialist content, and this will lead to better integration between solutions.
Meetings and events will become a mainstream part of travel spend management. Capita’s investment and business focus will ensure we continue to be a leading player in all the sectors in which we compete.
