Frankfurt Airport’s
terminal 2 is to reopen on Tuesday 1 June after more than a year's closure due to Covid.
The airport’s
management company Fraport said that 48 airlines will resume operations from the terminal and
that parking facilities would reopen. Regular bus transfers will restart between
the airport’s terminals at the same time.
Comprehensive health
measures have been implemented at the terminal including 3,000 floor markings,
480 see-through partitions at check-in counters, blocking off every other seat
in the waiting areas, and installing 30 disinfectant dispensers.
Some restaurants and
other services at the terminal will reopen at the same time although these will
be focused initially on meeting travellers’ basic needs.
“We’re very pleased
to announce that, after more than a year, terminal 2 will finally be
reopening,” said Sascha König, head of Fraport AG’s terminal resource
management department. “This will put us in an excellent position for handling
the predicted increase in passenger volumes during the upcoming summer months.
Of course, we’re also doing everything possible to prevent infection and
safeguard the health of our passengers and employees at Terminal 2.”
