The agreement will begin in 2027 and is valued at $192 million (approx. €183 million) over the five-year period.
Finnair is a member of the Oneworld airline alliance, and this agreement is part of the alliance’s plan to purchase up to 200 million gallons of SAF per year from Gevo, who earlier this month signed a similar agreement with Japan Airlines.
“Finnair has ambitious emissions reduction targets: by the end of 2025, we intend to halve the level of net emissions from 2019 and achieve carbon neutrality latest by the end of 2045,” said the airline’s SVP of sustainability, Eveliina Huurre. “SAF plays an important role for reaching these targets.”
The carrier previously partnered with Neste in Finland to increase the use of SAF, and has also made a purchase agreement with Aemetis for 17.5 million gallons of blended SAF to be delivered between 2025 and 2032.
